Rio Ferdinand comments on Man United’s signing of Paul Pogba
Rio Ferdinand backs Manchester United's club record signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus
Rio Ferdinand has taken to social media to hail Manchester United’s signing of Paul Pogba on Tuesday.
The Red Devils confirmed that they had agreed a deal to bring the France midfielder back to the club he first left in 2012.
Pogba has signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils and will now set out to prove himself to new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Ferdinand was Pogba’s team-mate during the midfielder’s first spell at the club – and the former England defender is backing him to have a big impact at United in the seasons to come.
Writing in a post on his Facebook page, Ferdinand said: “From the first moment he came through the doors of the treatment room (where players got strappings before training) I sensed there was something different about the kid.
“His stature on the pitch made him immediately stand out, but he passed gracefully over all distances and had feet like a ballerina with a ball at his feet and he could score goals from outside the box, too.
“United need to build around a group of young hungry players like Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Pogba is the one to lead that group from the front – the only way he would want it.”
United are currently gearing up for their Premier League trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon as they look to build on their Community Shield win over Leicester City last weekend.
The Red Devils finished fifth in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal last season.
