Rio Ferdinand delivers verdict on Twitter as Man United win 3-1 at Bournemouth

Rio Ferdinand has his say on the performances of Manchester United duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney

Rio Ferdinand reserved praise for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney on Twitter after Manchester United were 3-1 winners against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Red Devils broke the deadlock in Jose Mourinho’s first Premier League game in the 40th minute courtesy of Juan Mata’s close-range finish on the south coast.

Rooney’s header doubled United’s lead 14 minutes after half-time before Ibrahimovic scored his second goal in successive games for his new club with an effort from distance which beat Bournemouth goalkeeper Atur Boruc.

Former United defender Ferdinand poked fun at Rooney’s critics after it had been suggested in pre-season that the 30-year-old could struggle to secure a place in Mourinho’s starting line-up.

The ex-England defender also laughed off the suggestion that Ibrahimovic could struggle in the Premier League after the 34-year-old opened his account in England with a long-range goal.

United will take on Southampton at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Friday night.
