Rio Ferdinand believes that Liverpool’s success this season will come down to the form of Daniel Sturridge.
The England striker will be hoping to stay injury-free this term after struggling for form and fitness in recent campaigns.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Liverpool have what it takes to finish in the top four this season and secure qualification for the Champions League.
However, the former England centre-half feels that Sturridge’s form will be key to Liverpool’s success.
Speaking in an interview with Metro, Ferdinand said: “For Liverpool it depends on Sturridge.
“If he can prove his fitness they’ll have a chance, but without him I don’t think they’re in with a shot.”
Liverpool are currently gearing up for their first full season under new manager Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The Reds finished eighth last season as they missed out on European qualification, and also lost two cup finals under the German coach.
Sturridge was limited to just 14 appearances in the Premier League last season and managed to score eight goals for the Merseyside outfit as they ended the campaign without a trophy following Brendan Rodgers’ sacking back in October.
