Ruud Gullit issues warning to Chelsea over Antonio Conte
Ruud Gullit is expecting Chelsea to experience some highs and lows under Antonio Conte this season
Ruud Gullit has warned Chelsea to expect an inconsistent season under new manager Antonio Conte.
The former Juventus manager was named as Guus Hiddink’s permanent successor earlier this year as Chelsea limped to a tenth-place finish in the Premier League.
Conte gave Chelsea supporters reason to be optimistic after leading an average Italy side to the European championship quarter-finals before defeat by world champions Germany.
The west London side recorded victories over Liverpool and AC Milan during their pre-season tour of United States, although Chelsea did lose to Champions League holders Real Madrid.
Former Blues manager Gullit warned Chelsea that there will be some highs and lows during Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge ahead of their season opener against West Ham United on Monday night.
“Chelsea will have ups and downs, they are in a transition – they have a new coach and a new philosophy,” Gullit told BBC Sport.
Chelsea will host their bitter London rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The four-time Premier League champions have signed two players in the summer transfer window so far.
Michy Batshuayi moved to Chelsea from Marseille in a £33m deal before N’Golo Kante swapped champions Leicester City for the west London outfit in a £32m transfer.
