Stan Collymore makes bold claim about Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Man United
Stan Collymore lavishes praise on Manchester United striker Stan Collymore
Stan Collymore says Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s impact at Manchester United reminds him of Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The 34-year-old striker has scored four times in three competitive games for the Red Devils following his summer move to Old Trafford from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
Ibrahimovic took his Premier League tally to three goals on Friday night after the Swedish legend netted either side of half-time in a 2-0 victory over Southampton on his home debut.
Van Nistelrooy set the bar in terms of prolific centre-forwards for United after a scintillating return of 150 goals in 295 appearances in all competitions during a five-year spell at Old Trafford.
Former Liverpool striker Collymore discussed the impact of Ibrahimovic ahead of United’s trip to promoted side Hull City at KC Stadium on Saturday evening.
“Yup, you’ve guessed it, the Red Devils with a manager who’s a born winner, a central striker who, although may not go great guns for a full season is the nearest I’ve seen to Ruud van Nistelrooy up front for United, and in Paul Pogba, a Rolls Royce of a midfielder who didn’t have his greatest ever game against Southampton but bloody hell can the lad play, particularly the further forward he goes,” Collymore wrote in his Boylesport column.
Ibrahimovic was one of four summer signings after Jose Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal at the Old Trafford helm.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 but United are currently at the top of the pile.
