Stan Collymore predicts where Liverpool will finish next season
Stan Collymore gives his take on Liverpool's situation heading into the new Premier League season
Stan Collymore does not believe that Liverpool have what it takes to challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League next season.
The Reds are currently gearing up for Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge on Merseyside following his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October.
Klopp has been one of the Premier League’s busiest managers in the summer transfer window, bringing in seven new players so far as he prepares for the 2016-17 campaign.
Liverpool will be hoping to break back into the European spots after the disappointment of their eighth-placed finish in the top flight last season.
However, former Liverpool man Collymore does not feel that Liverpool will be able to secure Champions League qualification.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, Collymore said: “I look at the Liverpool squad, in terms of its strength, depth and ability, and I see one which, realistically, will only challenge for fifth.
“I’d love to see Klopp’s men break into the top four, but, with the squad he has, it isn’t going to be easy.
“If that’s the case, then I wonder if we might just start to view Jurgen Klopp a little differently next summer.”
Liverpool lost two cup finals under Klopp last season as they were beaten by Manchester City in the League Cup and were runners-up in the Europa League against Sevilla.
