Thierry Henry admits shock at this Arsenal transfer situation
Thierry Henry admits his shock at Jamie Vardy's decision not to join Arsenal this summer...
Thierry Henry has revealed that he is still bemused by Jamie Vardy’s decision not to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The north London side were believed to have tabled an offer for the England striker before Euro 2016, triggering the release clause in the forward’s contract with Leicester.
However, Vardy opted against a move to The Emirates and instead committed his future to Leicester by signing a new contract with The Foxes.
Former Arsenal striker Henry admits that he still has no idea why Vardy would have turned down a transfer to the Gunners.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Henry said: “As an Arsenal fan I didn’t understand it.
“Maybe it wasn’t the right move for him, he got scared because he didn’t know if he could play well in last phase, but he turned down Arsenal?!
“I would have told him, ‘can you play when a team is waiting for you? At Leicester you have space… but it’s Arsenal! How does he look at the club?
“Jamie Vardy turned Arsenal down. Back in the day if a club of that magnitude come for you, you go.”
Arsenal are now currently gearing up for their Premier League opener against Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will recruit a top-quality striker before the close of the summer transfer window at the end of the month.
