Thierry Henry hailed Paul Pogba’s incredible performance as the midfielder helped Manchester United ease to a 2-0 victory over Southampton on Friday night.

The France international made his first appearance since his world-record £92m transfer to Old Trafford from Serie A giants Juventus earlier this month.

Pogba impressed in the heart of Jose Mourinho’s midfield as Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored either side of half-time to seal three points for the hosts.

The 23-year-old lasted the full 90 minutes of the Premier League clash despite being part of the United squad for little over a week.

Former Arsenal striker Henry lavished praise on his compatriot after Pogba’s energetic performance against the Saints on Friday night.

“He was incredible. I like the 11.2km. The guy was in training just a week,” Henry told Sky Sports.

“What I got from him when I was talking to him that he couldn’t wait to get out. That’s why Jose Mourinho didn’t sub him. He was enjoying it.”

Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock with a thunderous header which easily beat Southampton shot stopper Fraser Forster in the 34th minute at Old Trafford.

The Swedish legend doubled United’s advantage from the penalty spot after Luke Shaw was impeded inside the Southampton penalty area.
