Thierry Henry pleads with Arsene Wenger to make these Arsenal signings
Thierry Henry gives his take on Arsenal's remaining plans for the summer transfer window
Thierry Henry has told Arsene Wenger to sign a striker and a centre-half after Arsenal’s 4-3 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.
The Gunners could not cope with periods of intense Liverpool pressure in the second half as they slipped to a home defeat in front of their fans on the opening weekend of the top-flight season.
Wenger has come in for plenty of criticism for his transfer policy over the years and Henry feels that Arsenal need to sign at least two more players before the window closes at the end of the month.
And former Arsenal captain Henry says that bringing in a new centre-half and striker should be Wenger’s priority this summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool, Henry said: “In general I think Arsenal need a centre-back and a striker.
“If they cannot get that striker, they should play Alexis Sanchez with Olivier Giroud.
“It doesn’t have to be a world-class striker, but someone who can bring something different. You don’t always win the league with the league’s top goalscorer. I finished top scorer of the league with Arsenal and didn’t win the title.
“Sometimes you just need something different and I think Alexis can be that guy.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
The Gunners have not won the top flight title since Henry was still playing for the club at Highbury back in 2003-04.
