Thierry Henry: These two Arsenal players must step their games up
Thierry Henry tells these two Arsenal players that it is time for them to step their games up at The Emirates
Thierry Henry admits that this could be a defining season for both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal.
Walcott is gearing up for his 11th season at the north London club but came in for plenty of criticism last season for failing to deliver on a consistent basis.
Oxlade-Chamberlain also struggled for form and fitness last season as he failed to hold down a regular spot in the north London side’s first team.
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester.
The north London side have not won the top-flight title since Henry was still playing at Highbury back in the 2003-04 season.
And former Arsenal captain Henry wants to see both of the Gunners’ England international step up to the plate this season.
Writing in his column for The Sun, Henry said: “It’s time to see Theo Walcott perform on a consistent basis, whether it’s on the wing or through the middle and starting to destroy teams like Vardy, Dimitri Payet and Riyad Mahrez did last season.
“But after ten years at Arsenal, we still don’t know where Theo’s best position is.
“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is another player who must step up his game.”
Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015 but ended last season without a trophy as they finished second in the top flight table.
