Wayne Rooney makes promise to new Man United signing

Wayne Rooney gives his take on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his impact at Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has promised that he will continue to work hard and adapt his game to play alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United.

Both Rooney and Ibrahimovic found the back of the net on Sunday afternoon as they fired Manchester United to a 3-1 win at Bournemouth in their Premier League opener on the south coast.

Ibrahimovic is getting used to his first season playing in the Premier League after joining the Red Devils on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer.

And United captain Rooney says that he is willing to adapt his style of play to link up with Ibrahimovic for the Red Devils.

Speaking to MUTV after Sunday’s game, Rooney said: “Zlatan is obviously a top-quality player and it’s always great to play with him. He’s a target man but also has great feet.

“I just have to move off him and try to get to into the pockets of space that are available.

“He’s played in different leagues throughout Europe and scored in all of them and I’ve no doubt he’ll continue to score for us.”

United are currently getting used to life under their new manager Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese coach’s appointment earlier in the summer.

Mourinho led to Red Devils to their first piece of silverware as Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-1 to win the Community Shield at Wembley.
