Wayne Rooney: What I really think about Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Man United
Wayne Rooney gives his take on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's start to life at Manchester United
Wayne Rooney has revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already slotted in well to life at Manchester United.
The Swedish striker joined the Red Devils on a free transfer earlier in the summer as new manager Jose Mourinho moved quickly to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford ahead of his first season in charge.
Ibrahimovic scored his first goal for the Red Devils on Saturday night as he netted the opener in the 5-2 pre-season friendly win over Galatasaray.
And Rooney has revealed how the former PSG and Inter Milan star already looks to be completely comfortable with life at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Rooney said: “He’s one of the best strikers, and a big personality. You can see he wants to be a really important player for us.
“After training he is already talking about how we can get the best out of each other, you can see he’s got this great work ethic.
“I think the players feel this is more like the old Manchester United. It’s not just the new signings, we’ve got Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford from last season who made such an impact.
“We’re in a very good spot now, we think we can challenge for the Premier League, and we want to put a marker down, in the Community Shield with Leicester.
“I know it’s a one-off game, but we want to show we can win a trophy early on — we feel that’s an important event for us.”
United finished fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season before opting to sack Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.
Mourinho was swiftly appointed as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract following his sacking by Chelsea back in December.
