Andy Cole issues Chelsea warning to Manchester clubs
The former Manchester United striker believes Chelsea are genuine Premier League title challengers
Andy Cole believes Chelsea are contenders for the Premier League title alongside Manchester City and Manchester United.
The Manchester derby is the headline act in the Premier League this weekend as Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho renew their rivalry at Old Trafford in Saturday’s early kick-off.
The Citizens are sitting at the top of the table after three successive victories in the Premier League following victories over Sunderland, Stoke City and West Ham United.
Not to be outdone by his former La Liga rival, Mourinho has led United to three Premier League wins against Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City before the international break.
However, former City and United striker Cole pointed to Chelsea as another contender for the Premier League title in what could be one of the most competitive seasons in the division’s history.
“If I knew who would do best in the next three years then I’d head straight to the bookmakers,” said Cole, speaking to exclusively to 888sport.
“The way they have both started the season it’s tempting to think that one of them will win it. But then when you look at how Chelsea have started as well.
“The Premier League is so topsy-turvy now and whoever puts a run together and plays as a team then anything is possible. Leicester showed that”
United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson secured the 13th and final top-flight crown of his decorated reign at Old Trafford.
City, meanwhile, last won the Premier League under Pep Guardiola’s predecessor Manuel Pellegrini.
