Arsene Wenger: What convinced me to make this Arsenal signing
Arsene Wenger discusses his decision to bring Takuma Asano to Arsenal this summer
Arsene Wenger is confident that Takuma Asano will end up being a big hit at Arsenal following his summer transfer to the club.
The forward arrived at Arsenal from Japanese side Sanfrecce Hiroshima early in the summer transfer window as Wenger moved quickly to bolster his attacking options at Emirates Stadium.
Asano has been sent out on loan to German side Stuttgart for the season as he looks to develop his game in Europe.
And Arsenal boss Wenger has lifted the lid on the attributes that have convinced him to bring the striker to the north London club.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Wenger said: “What I see in him is the quality of his runs, his pace, his body strength and he is quite aggressive.
“You do not find many players today who go behind the defenders at every opportunity.
“That is one of his strengths. I must say, I’m personally a strong believer in him, because by coincidence I met the national coach of Japan and he is absolutely convinced by him.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Southampton at The Emirates.
The Gunners, who finished second in the Premier League table last season, have won just one of their opening three games so far this term, with Wenger’s men having taken four points from a possible nine.
