The France midfielder completed a reported £30m move to White Hart Lane from Championship outfit Newcastle United on transfer deadline day after months of speculation surrounding his future at St James’ Park.
Sissoko declared himself an Arsenal supporter earlier this summer as the 26-year-old sought to secure a move to the Premier League from the Magpies after Rafael Benitiez failed to steer Newcastle clear of the relegation spots.
However, the France star ended up moving to Arsenal’s bitter north London rivals Tottenham in one of the biggest deals on Wednesday’s deadline day.
But Arsenal forward Giroud has lifted the lid on his conversation with Sissoko over a potential switch to the Emirates Stadium.
“I told him to give Arsenal the priority. It’s true it was special denouement. Until the end he didn’t know what he’ll do,” Giroud is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.
“It’s good for him. I think it was quite a long month for him so it’s good that something could have happened even in the very last moments. It’s great for him.
“Tottenham is a great team in our league. Obviously we all wanted for him after his good Euro and great performances, that he joins a Premier League club. In the Premier League Tottenham are an opponent for the trophy this year. I hope he will not be in good conditions against us.”
Sissoko scored one goal in 37 Premier League appearances for Newcastle last term as the midfielder failed to steer the Magpies from relegation danger.
Tottenham will make the trip to Mark Hughes’ Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.
