The 29-year-old became Antonio Conte’s fifth recruit of the summer transfer window after the west London club concluded a £32m deal to sign the versatile player from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Luiz won the Champions League, the Europa League and the FA Cup during his first spell at Stamford Bridge between 2010 and 2014 before the centre-half was sold to PSG in a £50m deal under Jose Mourinho.
The South American could make his second Chelsea debut against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium next weekend when Conte’s side make the trip to south Wales looking to maintain their 100 per cent record.
Former Chelsea midfielder Essien posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:
“Welcome back Geezer @davidluiz_4 👌🏿👊🏿 #CFC 💙”
Luiz won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles during his two seasons at French giants PSG.
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season after a difficult campaign under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
