Richard Keys tells Jose Mourinho to make this change at Man United
Richard Keys wants to see Wayne Rooney deployed as a striker for Manchester United and not drop deep
Richard Keys has urged Jose Mourinho to deploy Wayne Rooney as a striker to get the best out of the forward for Manchester United this season.
The England captain has made a subdued start to the new season under new manager Mourinho at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
The 30-year-old has scored one goal and made two assists in the Premier League this term but was unable to prevent United from slipping to their third straight defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.
Rooney has often been deployed in a midfield role for United in recent weeks.
However, former Sky Sports presenter Keys feels that the England star much be deployed up front in order for him to hit top gear.
Writing in his personal blog, Keys said: “As we know, I’m a massive Rooney fan, but I admit that he looks out of sorts at the moment.
“He’s confused by all the different jobs he’s been given and plays far to deep.
“Get in the box Wazza – it’s the only place you’ll score goals and influence matches.”
Manchester United have taken nine points from their opening five Premier League games.
Mourinho’s men are currently gearing up for their League Cup clash against Northampton Town on Wednesday night.
