Alan Shearer delivers blunt verdict on Man United’s start under Jose Mourinho

Alan Shearer discusses Manchester United's start to the new season under Jose Mourinho

Alan Shearer believes that Jose Mourinho will be very disappointed with Manchester United’s below-par start to the new season.

The Red Devils were in fine form in the opening few games of the campaign following the Portuguese coach’s appointment as they won their first four matches in all competitions.

However, a run of three successive defeats brought the Red Devils crashing back down to earth.

And although they returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 4-1 demolition of Leicester City, they dropped more points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City at Old Trafford last weekend.

Mourinho has been tasked with steering United back into the top four of the Premier League after he was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor.

But former England and Newcastle striker Shearer feels that United’s start has left a lot to be desired this season.

Shearer told talkSPORT, as quoted by The Shields Gazette: “I would thin k he would have expected a little bit more. He was very content with the players that he brought in and they spent an absolute fortune again, so I think they’ve been pretty disappointing up to now and they have got a lot of improving to do.”
