Alan Shearer has admitted that he would have loved to have played with Mesut Ozil after the playmaker’s strong start to the season for Arsenal.

The Germany international has been one of Arsenal’s standout players this season after making a sparkling start to the new campaign for Arsene Wenger’s men.

Ozil, who turned 28 this month, has scored six goals and made two assists in all competition for the Gunners this term and looks to be continuing where he left off from last season.

The World Cup winner has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top playmakers since his arrival at the north London club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

And former Newcastle United strike Shearer admits that he would have loved to have lined up with a player of Ozil’s calibre.

Writing in his column for Coral, Shearer said: “There is nothing better for a striker than when you play with a midfielder that you know is going to find you with the ball when you make your run.

“And he does that, he makes that happen, and it doesn’t half make the centre-forward’s job easier. I would have liked to have played in the same team as him.

“When you make runs you want to know that the ball is going to come to you and he is someone you can rely on for that.”

Arsenal are currently in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
