Dele Alli has the potential to emulate Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as one of the Premier League’s best goal-scoring midfielders, according to Alan Shearer.

The Tottenham Hotspur star scored an added-time equaliser to cancel out Nacer Chadli’s opener to secure a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

Alli showed great composure to poke a close-range finish past England goalkeeper Ben Foster and salvage a point for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The 20-year-old midfielder has scored in successive Premier League games after Alli netted Tottenham’s second goal in a 2-0 victory over leaders Manchester City ahead of the international break.

Former England and Newcastle United striker Shearer believes Alli could emulate Lampard’s Premier League legacy if the Tottenham midfielder can improve his finishing.

“I love the way he keeps getting into [goal-scoring] positions. He isn’t scared to miss them. He has to work on his finishing. If he does, and it’s a big if, I do think we could be talking about him in the same breath as Frank Lampard,” Shearer told BBC One’s Match Of The Day.

Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of leaders Manchester City and their bitter north London rivals Arsenal.
