Antonio Conte delivers latest update on Kurt Zouma ahead of Southampton v Chelsea
Kurt Zouma is due to return to first-team training with Chelsea this week after his knee injury
Antonio Conte has revealed that Kurt Zouma is set to begin full training with the Chelsea team at Cobham this week as he bids to return to full fitness as quickly as possible.
The France international defender has been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury back in February during the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.
Zouma made his return to action on Monday night when he featured for Chelsea’s development side in the 2-2 draw with Derby County.
The defender will now be hoping to stake his claim for a spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks as he bids to return to full fitness as soon as possible.
And Conte has revealed his delight at seeing Zouma back in action and is hoping to welcome the centre-half into his side in the coming weeks.
Speaking at a news conference before Chelsea’s League Cup clash with West Ham, Conte said of Zouma: “I’m pleased about this because Zouma is a young player but a good player. After the West Ham game, I hope to see him working with us in training.
“I’m very happy he played with the Under-23s and he had a good response in terms of the physical aspect.”
It remains to be seen whether Zouma could feature in the Premier League clash with Southampton on Sunday.
