Antonio Conte opens up about Man United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of Chelsea clash

Antonio Conte says Jose Mourinho deserves maximum respect at Chelsea with Manchester United on Sunday

Antonio Conte believes that Jose Mourinho deserves a warm reception from Chelsea fans when the Portuguese coach returns to Stamford Bridge with his Manchester United side on Sunday.

The west London side head into the game looking to make it three wins in a row in the top flight following their recent victories over Hull City and Leicester City.

United, meanwhile, are aiming to get back to winning ways in the top flight after their recent draws against Stoke City and Liverpool.

Mourinho is preparing to return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his sacking by the west London club back in December of last year.

The Portuguese coach has since been appointed as the new man in charge at Old Trafford as the Red Devils look to improve on their fifth-placed finish last season.

And Conte insists that he is full of respect for the Manchester United manager ahead of Sunday’s showdown in west London.

Conte told a news conference on Friday: “He was an important manager for Chelsea. With the club and the players, he wrote a part of the story of this club.

“He deserves a good reception. When you win three championships you remain in the heart of the fans, that’s normal. Then, after the whistle, he becomes like the players of Manchester United, an enemy.

“I have great respect for him. He’s a great manager, he has won a lot in his career and I think he deserves maximum respect.”
