Arsenal legend makes surprise Chelsea prediction under Antonio Conte

Charlie Nicholas doesn't have high hopes for Chelsea this season

Chelsea will battle it out with Southampton for a seventh-place finish in the Premier League this season, according to Charlie Nicholas.

The west London side ended a three-game winless run in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.

Willian and Diego Costa scored second-half goals against Mike Phelan’s side as Chelsea recorded their first win since a 3-0 victory against Burnley in August.

The Blues are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table and five points behind Pep Guardiola’s leaders Manchester City.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas doesn’t have high hopes for Chelsea this season despite the appointment of Antonio Conte.

“I expect Chelsea to get stronger but they have issues there and have badly missed John Terry in recent games. I would peg them about seventh, fighting with teams like Southampton,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

Conte was named as Chelsea manager earlier this year after their disappointing attempt at defending their Premier League campaign under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.

The west London side will host reigning champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 15 October.
