Arsene Wenger delivers verdict on Mesut Ozil ahead of Arsenal v Middlesbrough

Arsene Wenger is impressed by Mesut Ozil's improved form in front of goal this season

Arsene Wenger believes that Mesut Ozil is now showing that he is keen to score goals more regularly for Arsenal this season.

The Germany international continued his strong start to the season for the Gunners by scoring his first career hat-trick in the 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Ozil has now already scored six goals in all competitions for the north London side as he bids to help Arsenal win silverware this season.

And Gunners boss Wenger feels that the playmaker has stepped up his game in front of goal.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Wenger said: “He looks like he’s got a taste to score goals because he runs in behind more.

“Before, he only liked coming to the ball and providing, but we want him to be a provider and a scorer. It looks like he’s slowly moving towards that better balance.”

Arsenal are currently in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with leaders Manchester City heading into Saturday’s game with Middlesbrough.
