Arsene Wenger issues rallying cry ahead of Arsenal v Reading
Arsene Wenger wants Arsenal to make a quick return to winning ways
Arsene Wenger has challenged his Arsenal side to make an immediate return to winning ways against Reading on Tuesday night following their Premier League disappointment.
The Gunners limped to a goalless draw with promoted side Middlesbrough at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Arsene Wenger’s side failed to win their seventh successive Premier League game.
However, the one positive for Arsenal is that the north London side have maintained their unbeaten Premier League run since a 4-3 loss to Liverpool at home in their top-flight opener.
Arsenal responded to the setback against their title rivals with a goalless draw with defending champions Leicester City before a six-game winning run in the Premier League.
And Wenger wants his Arsenal players to respond in a similar fashion to their setback against Middlesbrough ahead of Tuesday night’s League Cup fourth-round clash.
“That’s our target,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website.
“We have a game on Tuesday night so let’s come back to winning habits straight away. It’s [about] how you deal with disappointment and how you bounce back and I believe that the group is strong enough.
“We lost the first game here against Liverpool and after that we bounced back in a very strong way so that’s what we want to do again.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points adrift of champions Leicester.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
