Arsene Wenger sends strong message to Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Arsene Wenger wants to see Mesut Ozil commit his future to Arsenal beyond 2018

Arsene Wenger has told Mesut Ozil that he is at the right club to further his career as his contract talks with the Gunners continue.

The playmaker has been one of Arsenal’s top players this season and netted his first career hat-trick in the 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets on Wednesday night.

Ozil’s current contract at The Emirates is set to expire in the summer of 2018 and he is believed to be in negotiations with the Gunners about a new deal.

The 28-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal side since his arrival at the club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

And Wenger is convinced that Ozil is at the right place to enjoy the best of the prime of his career.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday morning, Wenger said: “We are in touch [with Ozil] and that is our desire [to get him to stay].

“Ozil is 28 and is in the prime of his career. We want him to contribute to the club’s future.

“I believe he is in the right place.”
