Arsene Wenger tells Thierry Henry what Arsenal must do to win the title
The Arsenal manager wants his players to show the mental strength to bounce back from disappointments
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal need to prove that they are capable of responding to disappointments if the Gunners are to win the Premier League title this season.
The north London side are in third place in the Premier League table and primed to challenge leaders Manchester City and bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal were in scintillating form in September after three successive Premier League victories which included an emphatic 3-0 win against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
The Gunners recorded their first Champions League group-stage win of the current campaign with a 2-0 victory against Basel in a dominant performance last week.
Wenger signed five players in the summer transfer window, including Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka, Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez and Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi.
Discussing with former Arsenal striker Henry what is required to be Premier League champions, Wenger explained that his Gunners players need to show the mental strength to bounce back from setbacks over the course of the 2016-17 season.
“The impression I have and you have now has to be confirmed by a consistent attitude,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“I think the team has a good spirit. They want to do well. You know you have disappointments during the season and it’s always the way the champions respond strongly to disappointments.
“We have to show that we are capable of doing that and let’s not forget the competition is of a very high level.”
