Charlie Nicholas boldly predicts where Arsenal will finish in title race

Charlie Nicholas delivers his verdict on Arsenal's title prospects this season

Charlie Nicholas believes Arsenal will finish in second place in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season.

The Gunners are currently in third place in the Premier League table following a 1-0 victory over promoted side Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday evening.

France international Laurent Koscielny scored an added-time winner to secure three points as Arsene Wenger celebrated his 20th anniversary as Arsenal boss.

The Gunners manager hasn’t led the north London outfit to Premier League title glory since 2003-04 when Thierry Henry inspired Arsenal to the top-flight crown.

And Nicholas, who played for Arsenal between 1983 and 1987, doesn’t envisage Arsenal beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

“Arsenal stay second because they have looked good in recent weeks, securing a massive win at home to Chelsea and following that with a narrow victory over Burnley,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“Sometimes when you’re not playing well, you just need to grind out a result and that’s what Arsenal did at Turf Moor.

“You could see the smiles on the Arsenal players’ faces at the end because you knew they thought it was a big three points.

The Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League table last term but 10 points behind reigning champions Leicester City.

Wenger signed five players in the summer transfer window as the Arsenal manager bolstered his squad ahead of the new campaign.
