Charlie Nicholas predicts where Jose Mourinho’s Man United will finish

The former Arsenal midfielder is backing Manchester United to finish in fifth place

Charlie Nicholas says he doesn’t expect Manchester United to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

The Red Devils allowed three points to slip away on Sunday afternoon after a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at Old Trafford.

Second-half substitute Anthony Martial appeared to have netted a 69th-minute winner to open his Premier League account for the season.

However, David De Gea’s rare error led to former Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen scoring an equaliser with six minutes remaining.

United have managed to win just one of their last four games in the Premier League to leave Mourinho’s side in sixth place and five points behind leaders Manchester City.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas doesn’t envisage the Red Devils challenging for the Premier League title, with the former Scotland international tipping to United to finish in fifth.

“I am dropping Man United to fifth having originally put them third,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“Jose Mourinho is stuck because he has spent a fortune on big-money buys, and the big-money buys, especially Paul Pogba, are still trying to adapt.”

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
