Chelsea legend delivers blunt verdict on Arsenal’s title prospects
The Chelsea legend pours cold water on talk of Arsenal winning the Premier League title this season
Pat Nevin doesn’t believe Arsenal are genuine Premier League title contenders this season.
The Gunners have been in impressive form in the Premier League and the Champions League since their stuttering start to the 2016-17 campaign.
Arsenal lost 4-3 to title rivals Liverpool in their opening game at the Emirates Stadium before a goalless draw with defending champions Leicester City.
However, Arsene Wenger’s side are unbeaten since that trip to the King Power Stadium as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott continue to shine in the Arsenal side.
The north London side’s most-impressive Premier League win came in a 3-0 victory over derby rivals Chelsea thanks to goals from Sanchez, Walcott and Ozil.
The Gunners were 6-0 winners against Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the Champions League at The Emirates on Wednesday night after Ozil’s first hat-trick.
However, former Chelsea midfielder Nevin still has his doubts about Arsenal despite conceding that Wenger’s side do look more impressive this season.
“I’ll be honest with you. I wouldn’t jump in and say that [Arsenal can win the title] yet,” Nevin told Newstalk.
On Arsenal’s impressive record of finishing in the top four, Nevin added:
“The law of averages would suggest so. If you’ve been in the top four that many times, at some point, you need to get the number one.”
