Chelsea legend: This Liverpool star proving key for Jurgen Klopp

James Milner was Liverpool's best player in a 2-1 victory over Swansea, according to Pat Nevin

Pat Nevin felt James Milner deserved the man of the match award for his inspirational role in Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory over Swansea City.

The Reds made a disappointing start to their Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium following Leroy Fer’s early opener from a set-piece.

However, Brazil international Roberto Firmino levelled with a powerful header after a superb cross from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

Milner scored an 84th-minute winner from the penalty spot after Firmino was brought down inside the penalty area in South Wales.

The 30-year-old has already scored four goals in the Premier League this season despite asked to play in an unorthodox left-back role.

Former Chelsea midfielder Nevin lavished praise on Milner following the former Manchester City star’s second-half impact at the Liberty Stadium.

“They made two technical changes. The two full-backs pushed on,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.

“Nathaniel Clyne started it for the first 15-20 minutes.

“As the game went on, it seemed to be more and more James Milner. I would have given James Milner man of the match.

“He was pushing forward. He was playing against two lightening quick players. He doesn’t have massive pace but he was superb again.”

Milner moved to Liverpool in a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015 under Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
