Chelsea legend’s four-word response when asked if Tottenham are title contenders

The former Chelsea striker runs the rule over Tottenham Hotspur's title prospects

Chris Sutton believes Tottenham Hotspur are the real deal in the Premier League title race.

The Lilywhites were impressive 2-0 winners against current leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon following Aleksandar Kolarov’s own goal and Delle Alli’s first strike of the 2016-17 season.

Tottenham are in second place and a point behind Pep Guardiola’s Citizens side after their impressive victory over the Premier League title favourites in north London.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are the only Premier League club still unbeaten after seven games so far this season despite facing Liverpool and City at White Hart Lane.

Former Chelsea striker Sutton believes Tottenham can challenge for the Premier League title even if there is more competition from their traditional rivals for the top-flight crown this term.

Asked if Tottenham are the real deal, Sutton responded:

“At the moment, yes. They were the real deal last season but didn’t get themselves over the line,” Sutton told The Daily Mail.

“The challenge for this season was to show more consistency.

“They seem every bit as good as last season — if not better. But when you look at the money City and Manchester United have spent and the improvement Liverpool have made, it will be even harder this season.”

Tottenham challenged Leicester City for much of the 2015-16 season before the Lilywhites fell away in the final few weeks of the campaign as the Foxes won the title in style.
