Chris Sutton predicts where Tottenham will finish
The former Chelsea striker believes Tottenham Hotspur are capable of a top-four finish
Chris Sutton is confident that Tottenham Hotspur can secure a spot in the Premier League’s top four this season.
The Lilywhites are in second place and a point behind current leaders Manchester City heading into the international break after a 2-0 win against Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday afternoon.
Serbia international Aleksandar Kolarov broke the deadlock with an own goal in the ninth minute before Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli opened his Premier League account for the season at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last term as the north London side secured a return to the Champions League.
Asked where he thought Tottenham would finish in the top flight this season, Sutton told The Daily Mail:
“With United spending big and Guardiola (right) arriving at City at the start of the season, I thought it might be tough for Spurs to finish in the top four.
“I thought United would finish second but they have so much improvement to make.
Tottenham look streets ahead. I’m a big fan of Pochettino. He gave Dele Alli a chance last season as a 19-year-old, when a lot of managers wouldn’t have had the courage or insight.
“He is building a young, exciting, energetic team who I think will finish in the top four. Can they push City? On Sunday’s evidence I’d think so, but I still think City will win the league.”
Pochettino spent big transfer fees on Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, Netherlands international Vincent Janssen and Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham have never won the Premier League title since the division’s inception in 1992.
