Christian Eriksen has revealed that his positive expectations for Tottenham’s future are what prompted him to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane this season.

The Danish playmaker recently signed a new deal with the Lilywhites to keep him at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2020.

Eriksen has been one of the Premier League’s top performers and was a driving force behind Tottenham’s title challenge last season.

The north London club eventually ended up in third place in the table after challenging Leicester City for much of the campaign.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have started the new campaign in impressive fashion and currently sit in second place in the Premier League table, just one point behind leaders Manchester City.

And Eriksen has revealed that his big expectations for Spurs in the coming seasons are one of the main reasons why he opted to commit to the club.

Speaking in an interview with Tipsbladet, Eriksen said: “I wanted to extend because I feel that we can take the next step, which is to be at the top.

“In the past Tottenham have been a middle to top club, but with the players we have in the squad, our way of playing and a new stadium, then there is a possibility that we may be at the top.

“Now we play also in the Champions League, as we did in the past, and that is something I like. I personally had no doubt that I wanted to stay and be a part of the building.”
