David De Gea says that it is time for Manchester United to show what they are capable of under Jose Mourinho this season.

The Red Devils are currently eight Premier League games into their first season under the Portuguese coach following his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor back in May.

It has been a mixed start for United this term as the team get used to life under their new manager and their summer signings adapt to their new surroundings.

United have struggled to challenge for top trophies since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-13 season.

And De Gea feels that Mourinho is the right man to help guide the Red Devils back to the top of English football, starting this season.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports before Monday’s trip to Liverpool, De Gea said: “With every manager it’s different things, now we have Jose Mourinho.

“He is a top manager with a strong character, he’s a winner. He brings his character, his passion for football and tactical things.

“He brings good players too and now it is time to show the world that we are united.”
