David James delivers promising verdict on Liverpool’s title prospects

The former Liverpool number one is feeling positive about the Reds' chances of winning the Premier League title

David James believes Liverpool have a great opportunity to win the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side after Monday night’s goalless draw with Manchester United at Anfield.

While Liverpool were disappointing against Jose Mourinho’s outfit, the Merseyside club have already beaten top-four rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in emphatic style on the road this term.

The 18-time English champions were also 4-1 winners against defending Premier League champions Leicester City at Anfield last month.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper James believes the Reds should seize their chance to win a first Premier League title without any European distractions.

“I think this year is the one great opportunity for the team to 100 per cent [focus] on the league,” James told The Sport Review in an exclusive interview.

“Try and win the league. Champions League next season? We’ll worry about that if it happens but this could be their year.”

Liverpool have never won the Premier League title but finished in second place in the table in 2009 and 2014.

Klopp’s side will host West Bromwich Albion at Anfield in their next Premier League game on Saturday evening.
