David James delivers scathing verdict on Arsenal’s title chances this season
David James suggests that the optimism around Arsenal so far this season is premature
David James has played down Arsenal’s chances of winning a major trophy this season.
The Gunners have earned plenty of praise in recent weeks after a strong start to the new season for Arsene Wenger’s men.
Arsenal bounced back from dropping points against Liverpool and Leicester City to win their next six Premier League games and leave them second in the top-flight table, level on points with leaders Manchester City.
The north Londoners have also made a solid start in the Champions League, with the Gunners having taken four points from their opening two games ahead of their clash with Ludogorets at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
However, despite the praise being directed Arsenal’s way this season, former England goalkeeper James believes that the Gunners are likely to suffer an inevitable dip in form in the coming months.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Sport Review, James said: “It’s obviously not a very nice thing [to say], especially if you’re an Arsenal fan, but I always expect Arsenal to finish second, third or fourth, so it doesn’t really matter what happens between the start of the season and the end does it?
“They’ll have a very good spell and a very bad spell.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season.
