David James makes prediction about Tottenham’s season

David James is tipping Tottenham to be serious Premier League title contenders this season

David James is backing Tottenham to have learnt lessons from last season and is tipping Spurs to be serious Premier League title contenders this term.

The Lilywhites earned plenty of praise for their impressive performances last season as they ended up being Leicester City’s closest challengers in the race for the 2015-16 title.

Spurs ended up suffering a dip in form towards the end of the campaign, allowing Arsenal to pip them to second place on the final day of the season as Mauricio Pochettino’s men ended up third.

However, Tottenham have started the new season strongly and only trail leaders Manchester City by a point after eight games.

And former England goalkeeper James believes that Spurs will have learnt from their end of season slump last term as they look to improve this year.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Sport Review, James said: “I was impressed with their English contingent last season.

“I was concerned at the end of the season, I have to say, because the team seemed to melt towards the end a bit. Obviously that experience will turn them into a much more formidable side this season.

“I still want Liverpool to win the league, don’t get me wrong, but I do like what Tottenham are doing.

“If they can learn from the meltdown [at the end of last season] and understand how to deal with that kind of pressure, then why not? Why can’t they be up there challenging?

“In my Liverpool days we were in a similar position in a two-horse race with Manchester United towards the end of the season and finished third. With Tottenham, if they can learn [from last season], then why shouldn’t they be up there challenging?”

Tottenham travel to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game on Saturday lunchtime.
