Dejan Lovren reveals moment Jurgen Klopp won over Liverpool defender
The Liverpool defender reveals what life under Jurgen Klopp is like
Dejan Lovren has revealed one moment when Jurgen Klopp showed his true personality to the Liverpool defender.
The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after seven top-flight games so far.
Liverpool were 2-1 winners against Swansea City in their most-recent top-flight fixture after goals from Roberto Firmino and James Milner overturned Leroy Fer’s first-half opener for the Welsh side.
Only Pep Guardiola’s side have scored as many goals as Liverpool in the Premier League so far this season after impressive victories over Arsenal, Hull City, Leicester City and Chelsea in recent months.
The Croatia international has been a key part of Klopp’s side over the past 12 months and the former Southampton defender has established a promising partnership with summer signing Joel Matip.
And Lovren lifted the lid on one moment in the 2015-16 Premier League season when Klopp showed his true character to the Liverpool centre-half.
“I will never forget he gave me a couple of days off when I had a problem with my daughter and she was ill and in hospital. She needed an operation,” Lovren told The Daily Express as quoted by Liverpool’s website.
“It was at the time of the Augsburg game away in February and he said to me, ‘Go to Croatia. Be with your daughter’. These things are big for a player. He showed his personality then.”
Klopp took over the reins at Liverpool in October 2015 after the German was named as Brendan Rodgers’ successor.
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
