Dwight Yorke says Marcus Rashford reminds him of Manchester United legend Andy Cole.

The England international didn’t start in United’s opening three Premier League games of the 2016-17 season as Jose Mourinho’s side eased to comfortable victories over Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City.

However, Rashford came off the bench to score an added-time winner at the KCOM Stadium as the Red Devils were 1-0 winners against the promoted side.

The 19-year-old continued his goal-scoring run two weeks later with a consolation goal for Mourinho’s side in a 3-1 loss to Watford before the United starlet got on the score sheet in a 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford last month.

Rashford broke into the United first-team under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal last season and the teenager scored eight times in 18 games in all competitions for the 20-time English champions.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport ahead of Monday night’s trip to Liverpool, Yorke explained why Rashford shares some of the same attributes as the United legend’s former strike partner Cole.

“Coley and Rashford are very similar. They like to run in on goal. Coley never liked to get involved in link-up play – although he was very good at it – and like all the world’s best strikers he liked to get in on goal.

“Rashford also has that knack. That allows Wayne Rooney – or myself – to get midfielders running backwards and pick a pass through. It’s always good to have that combination with one going long and the other short.

“Then you’re confusing defenders. Me and Rashford would have scored some goals and caused some problems believe me. The combination would have been good enough.”
