Former striker explains how Liverpool can beat Man United at Anfield

David Fairclough looks ahead to Liverpool's showdown with Manchester United on Monday night at Anfield

David Fairclough has warned Liverpool that they may have to show some patience in trying to break down Manchester United at Anfield on Monday night.

The Reds are preparing to welcome their bitter local rivals to Anfield as they look to continue their strong start to Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at the club.

Klopp’s men are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new campaign.

United, meanwhile, have made a stuttering start to life under Jose Mourinho and are currently sixth and five points off top spot.

The Red Devils will be aiming to make themselves difficult to break down at Anfield, according to Fairclough.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website, Fairclough said: “Clearly, we’ll have to be prepared for a patient spell and hopefully we don’t get frustrated.

“We won’t want to give anything away and they certainly won’t come and create an open game. It’s up to everyone to remain patient and continue to do the things we do well.

“We know that we’ll get chances and, when those chances come, you have to be ready. You’re not going to get an abundance of chances against Manchester United and we have to appreciate that, when they come, we can’t afford to waste them.”
