Garth Crooks: This Chelsea forward becoming match-winner
The former Tottenham forward lavishes praise on Chelsea forward Victor Moses
Garth Crooks says Victor Moses is looking like a Chelsea match-winner under Antonio Conte.
The Nigeria international has enjoyed a new lease of life at the west London club following the Italian’s appointment earlier this month.
Moses scored Chelsea’s third goal in a 3-0 win over defending Premier League champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The 25-year-old has now found the back of the net twice in the Premier League this season which is already his best return since moving to Chelsea.
Former Tottenham midfielder Crooks believes Conte’s innovative tactics have brought out the best in the former Crystal Palace man in recent weeks.
“The continued influx of foreign coaches in the Premier League has created an explosion of tactical options. One player who has taken advantage of the variety afforded players these days is Moses,” Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column.
“Loans to West Ham and Stoke suggested his career at Stamford Bridge was over but manager Antonio Conte – in the absence of Willian, who is on compassionate leave – has found a new role for the Nigerian and he looks like he’s loving every minute of it.
“His performance for Chelsea against Leicester, in a classic 3-4-3 formation, gave him freedom to express himself without placing restrictions on his team.
“Admittedly, he had genuine defenders behind him but his athleticism and ability to take players on was an exciting feature against the Foxes. A player I thought tended to stroll through games suddenly looks like a match-winner again.”
Moses has been a Premier League journeyman in recent seasons having played for Wigan Athletic, Liverpool, Stoke City, West Ham United and Chelsea over the past five seasons after starting his career at Palace.
Fifth-placed Chelsea will host Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side in their next Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
