Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs onto a winner with Cafe Football’s new menu

The Manchester United legends have hit the spot with their new football-themed menu

With many Premier League fans still digesting the concept of Friday Night Football, The Sport Review was invited along to Cafe Football to check out their new menu earlier this month.

The restaurant, which is located in Westfield Stratford, is the brainchild of Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville. Having previously tasted their football-themed menu, we were intrigued to hear that Cafe Football had made some deadline-day additions to revamp its menu.

With Everton and Crystal Palace doing their best to entertain us on the 16 television screens located around the eatery, we were treated to a football feast.

As the restaurant approaches its third birthday, the menu has been reworked by its creative team using food from the football terraces as inspiration, each dish has been given its own unique twist to create a league of taste sensations.

The Irons, which is aptly named given West Ham’s new Olympic Stadium neighbours Cafe Football, we got stuck into a flat iron steak with horseradish cream, watercress salad, ciabatta and skin on fries. It was a tasty dish that rivalled Romelu Lukaku’s delicious free-kick to break the deadlock at Goodison Park.

With a lack of real quality in the first half, we were treated to The Mara Doner – a shredded lamb pizza with mozzarella, garlic, red onion, mint aioli and topped with a tomato and rocket salad. It was a unique twist on an orthodox Italian dish.

While Cafe Football’s new addition prompted fond memories of Maradonna’s best moments during a magical career, it was the more industrial Christian Benteke who brought some cheers at London-based Cafe Football after the striker equalised for Palace in the first half.

The Piri Piri Chicken, Falafel and Lamb Kofta Kebabs has been billed as Cafe Football’s very own attacking trio to rival Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar. They were all served with pickled cabbage, red onion and tomato salsa, guacamole and hot Memphis sauce.

The restaurant recently picked up some silverware with their award winning Minced Beef and Bovril Pie, which naturally retained its place on the new-look menu. The Mexican Wave Burger, which won the Best Technical Burger prize at last year’s National Burger Awards, is still a fan’s favourite – too.

While neither Everton nor Palace could put the cherry on the cake and score a second-half winner at Goodison Park, back in London, The Sport Review team rounded off our evening at Cafe Football with a luxurious ‘melting football’ chocolate desert.

Verdict: Cafe Football is the perfect strike partner for football fans looking to enjoy some Premier League or Champions League action with a bite to eat in the company of family and friends, and fellow supporters.
