Gary Neville comments on Chelsea’s 4-0 thrashing of Man United

The former Manchester United defender has his say on Chelsea's rampant victory at The Bridge

Gary Neville believes that Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Manchester United marks a special achievement for Antonio Conte and the Blues.

The west London club ran riot at Stamford Bridge as they tore apart Jose Mourinho’s men to move to within one point of leaders Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante wrapped up a thumping win for Conte’s men and ensured an uncomfortable return to Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho.

Neville believes that the nature of the win will help to build the Chelsea players’ trust in their new manager.

And the former Manchester United defender feels that it will give Conte and his players a huge boost heading into their League Cup clash against West Ham on Wednesday.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the final whistle, Neville said: “He [Conte] needed a big game, to build the trust from his players.

“That will strengthen them tonight. They’ll all go home feeling a lot happier about each other. He wanted the Chelsea fans to get behind him because he realised it’s a special day.

“To beat Manchester Untied 4-0 is tough and it’s a big achievement for him today. To do it in his first game is a big moment for him and his team and it will give them a lot of confidence.”
