Gary Neville makes admission over Jose Mourinho and Man United

The former Manchester United defender runs the rule over Jose Mourinho's start at Old Trafford

Gary Neville has admitted that he thought Jose Mourinho would have a bigger impact at Manchester United.

The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to title rivals Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

Goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante wrapped up a comfortable three points for Antonio Conte’s side.

United are in seventh place in the Premier League table and six points adrift of leaders Manchester City after nine top-flight games.

The 20-time English champions have already lost to Chelsea, Watford and Pep Guardiola’s City side in the Premier League this term.

Former United defender Neville conceded that he was anticipating a better start to the 2016-17 campaign with Mourinho at the helm.

“There is a lot of work to do for United, but as a United fan I am not alarmed,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“I thought that they would be better at the start of the season. Maybe that was a thought of Mourinho having a massive impact, but when you look at it [on Sunday], that’s not a Jose Mourinho team at all.

“He has got to work with them, he’s got to get more out of them. He can’t do anything over the next three months and it will be difficult in January.”

United will host Sean Dyche’s in-form Burnley side at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as the Red Devils look to make a swift return to winning ways.
