Gary Neville: This is how Jose Mourinho will transform Man United

The former Manchester United defender is confident Jose Mourinho will ring the changes at Old Trafford

Gary Neville has backed Jose Mourinho to get rid of all the deadwood at Manchester United over the next 12 months.

The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon after Mourinho returned to his former employers for the first time since he was sacked in December.

Goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Gary Cahill, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard condemned the 20-time English champions to their third Premier League defeat of the 2016-17 season.

United are in seventh place in the Premier League table and six points behind leading trio Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

While Neville was disappointed with United’s woeful performance at Old Trafford, the former Red Devils defender explained how Mourinho will transform the 13-time Premier League winners.

“He [Mourinho] will drive a bus through them in the next six to 12 months at the club, because he won’t accept defending like that,” Neville told Sky Sports after Sunday’s result.

“You’ve seen what he’s done before – when he doesn’t trust players, they’re gone. At the moment there’ll be some players making mistakes thinking that this isn’t a guy I wan’t to mess with too many times, because he won’t hang around.”

Mourinho signed Villarreal defender Eric Bailly, Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window.
