Gary Neville: Why Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino deserves world-class job

Gary Neville lavishes praise on Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino

Gary Neville believes Mauricio Pochettino’s transformation of Tottenham Hotspur highlights that the Spurs manager is ready for a world-class job.

The Lilywhites were emphatic 2-0 winners against Premier League leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon thanks to Aleksandar Kolarov’s own goal and Dele Alli’s opening strike of the 2016-17 season.

Tottenham are a point behind the Citizens heading into the international break and Pochettino’s men are the only remaining unbeaten club in the Premier League this term after inflicting a first defeat on Pep Guardiola.

The former Argentina international was rewarded with the Tottenham job after Pochettino established Southampton as a top-eight side during a brief 18-month spell in charge of the South Coast club.

And Neville heaped praise on the Tottenham boss and tipped Pochettino to secure a role at one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the future.

“Mauricio Pochettino is an absolutely brilliant coach. There is no doubt,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“The job he has done at two Premier League clubs is wonderful. He deserves whatever you would class a big job which isn’t disrespectful to Tottenham. He is giving the perfect dress rehearsal.”
