Glenn Hoddle bluntly criticises ‘really poor’ Tottenham star
Glenn Hoddle has his say on Eric Dier's performance during England's goalless draw with Slovenia
Glenn Hoddle accused Eric Dier of “laziness” during his performance for England against Slovenia on Tuesday night.
The Spurs midfielder did not have his best of games as Gareth Southgate’s men failed to click into gear in their latest World Cup qualifier.
Dier under-hit a back-pass to Joe Hart during the game, allowing the Slovenian attack to pounce and force a good save from the England goalkeeper.
The Tottenham star escaped the incident without the embarrassment of England conceding a goal, but former Spurs man Hoddle was less than impressed by the incident.
Speaking while co-commentating on the game on ITV, Hoddle said: “He’s not even looked up, it’s laziness from Dier, really poor.
“On the ball he has to sharpen up a little bit. He has had some time out and looks behind everyone else in terms of his awareness.
“In the centre of that pitch you have to have your eyes everywhere and be on top of your game.”
Dier will be hoping to feature for Tottenham when the Lilywhites return to Premier League action this weekend with a clash against West Brom.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been in fine form so far this season and beat leaders Manchester City 2-1 in their most recent outing.
The Lilywhites are currently second in the table and just a point behind the leaders after seven games.
