Glenn Hoddle delivers verdict on new Tottenham signing

The former Tottenham manager says Vincent Janssen desperately needs his first Premier League goal

Glenn Hoddle admits Vincent Janssen desperately needs to score his first Premier League goal for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Netherlands international moved to the north London club in a £19m deal from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar in the summer transfer window.

Janssen finished as the Eredivisie’s leading goal-scoring last season after a return of 27 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 22-year-old has failed to find the back of the net in nine Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites so far this season.

While Hoddle was impressed with Janssen’s recent performances during the international break, the former Spurs boss has conceded that the centre-forward has struggled to hit the ground running at White Hart Lane.

“Vincent Janssen has come in and hasn’t hit the ground running. He hasn’t got his Premier League goal under his belt. He played well for Holland when I saw him,” Hoddle told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.

Tottenham are in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s fixtures after back-to-back draws in the English top flight.
