Graeme Souness delivers glowing verdict on new Man United signing

Graeme Souness is backing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to be a key player for Manchester United this season

Graeme Souness believes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is “the real deal” and is backing the striker to be a big success at Manchester United this season.

The 35-year-old forward has already established himself as a regular fixture in the Manchester United first-team since his arrival at the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Ibrahimovic has scored six goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s men so far as he gets to grips with life in the Premier League.

The Swedish striker has started all eight of United’s Premier League games so far this season and looks set to be first-choice for the rest of the campaign.

And former Liverpool star Souness is backing Ibrahimovic to be a big hit at Manchester United this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Souness said: “He has a big presence in the dressing room and he’s very much the real deal for me.

“In football if you go back, I’m talking worldwide, there might be anywhere between five or ten players that you would pay to go and watch and for the last decade he’s been one of them.

“I think you can be critical and say he doesn’t work hard enough off the ball but for me he offers so much to the team – on and off the pitch.

“He looks to be a real Eric Cantona-esque character in the way he carries himself, his arrogance, believing there’s no one like him when he plays on the pitch. I think that rubs off on others.

“Those younger lads at United are on the pitch with a living legend, he has done everything, he’s won so much with the big football clubs and to be at United is such a perfect fit. He’s meant to be at Old Trafford, it’s perfect for him.”
